CDS Product
Elepar has made a product (very similar, though not identical, to
the CDS
described on these web pages) available as open source at cds-bcr.sourceforge.net.
We call this dialect implementation
BCR.
(Why that acronym?)
What BCR offers for free:
Superior performance
and increased portability, flexibility, and simplicity over message-passing
approaches
A K&R C (e.g. gcc) binding
Most of the advantages of full-fledged CDS. (Most users will not
notice the missing features, like contexts and special forms of composite
non-blocking communication).
A remote debugging interface (opening a debugger in a window for each new
process)
Software which has been built for, and interoperable between, uniprocessor
and SMP versions of:
Suse Linux 7.1 on Pentium III (and probably similar)
Sun Solaris (SunOS 5.7) w/gcc
LinuxPPC 1999 Q4 on Mac G3 Powerbook ("Wallstreet")
What BCR does not (yet) offer:
Bindings for Fortran, C++, or Java
Unlimited free use: Free demo version has 30-minute execution limit
per run
An extremely secure product (though it can be configured to use ssh)
Free support...BUT
Concerns mailed to feedback@elepar.com
will likely receive attention.
Elepar offers support for a fee
You can express your thoughts on the CDS interface, for Elepar and perhaps
others, at the CDS standardization
